A sales rep, an administration clerk and the manager are walking to lunch when they find an antique oil lamp. They rub it and a Genie comes out in a puff of smoke. The Genie says, "I usually only grant three wishes, so I'll give each of you just one." "Me first! Me first!" says the admin clerk. "I want to be in the Bahamas, driving a speedboat, without a care in the world." Poof! She's gone.

In astonishment, "Me next! Me next!" says the sales rep."I want to be in Hawaii, relaxing on the
beach with my personal masseuse, an endless supply of pina coladas and the love of my life." Poof! He's gone.

"OK, you're up," the Genie says to the manager. The manager says,"I want those two back in the office after lunch."

Moral of the Story
Always let your boss have the first say :)

Your communication systems are central to the effectiveness of your business, but the use of the Internet has become a huge problem, with many employees abusing this business tool. The potential consequences for the employer and company are dire!! This could cost you thousands of rands in lost working time, legal expenses and damaged electronic systems.

'Privacy' can be a thorn in your side!

Facebook, Gmail, Twitter, just to name a few have side tracked employees to give only the minimum at work and slowly these applications gets the employee addicted to an electronic social circle.
Because of the legal protection of an employee's right to privacy, you need to tread very warily when designing effective management tools of your e-communications system. However, there are actions you can take, such as:
-Permit you to inspect emails sent or received through your computer facilities.
-Reduce the abuse of Email and Internet facilities.
-Reduce your legal risk when employees send out offensive emails, or emails that could bind your company legally.
- Contact your IT department to block these social sites
- Reduce the risk of computer viruses invading your computer system.
-Draw up a policy or clause within the employment contract where severe disciplinary action will be taken.
Do you have the strength to withstand your favourite electronic social site/s for 1 week??? Try it !!! One week, no Facebook, Twitter, Gmail.....You can do it !!!
Steps to blocking applications on your computer:
  • Open up your Internet explorer
  • Select tools in the top right hand corner
  • Select Internet options
  • Select the security tab
  • Now select restricted sites
  • and enter the site you wish to block :)
